Best Super-Bowl Weekend for the Jets Since 1969
The National Football League’s 2023 Super Bowl will be played on Sunday, and once again, the New York Jets did not qualify. In fact, the Jets failed to make the playoffs for the twelfth consecutive season, the longest current streak in the league. However, the Jets are in the limelight this weekend for other reasons. In fact, we Jet fans have five major reasons to celebrate this weekend.
First, Joe Klecko finally made it into the Hall of Fame. Why his election took so long is beyond me. This former defensive lineman played for the Jets for over a decade from 1977 to 1987 and was part of the New York Sack Exchange (along with Mark Gastineau, Marty Lyons, and Abdul Salaam), one of the best defensive lines ever. During his career, Klecko was the Defensive Player of the Year in 1981 and earned the All-Pro designation at three different positions (end, tackle, and nose tackle). The only other player to perform such a feat (as a defensive back, running back and flanker) was the former New York Giant and Hall of Famer Frank Gifford. The Jets made the playoffs four times during Klecko’s time as a Jet. Congratulations, Joe.
Next, former Jets’ cornerback Darrelle Revis was also elected to the Hall of Fame. Unlike Klecko, who had to wait almost 30 years for his selection to the Hall, Revis made it in his first year of eligibility. (A player is not…
