Use the “Listen” Feature in Medium and the “Read Aloud” Feature in Your Word Processing Program for Your Final Proofreading

Proofreading may be one of the most challenging parts of the writing process. Personally, I love the pre-writing and brainstorming stages when I play with ideas for a potential blog post or other writing project. Then, I get even more excited as I begin to flesh out my ideas and my organizational pattern in my first draft. Next, I share that first draft with a reader or two, and I eagerly anticipate their questions and comments. Finally, as I make my final adjustments, I look forward to the submission stage when I share my work with the world. Yet, I know I can’t hit that “Publish” button until I proofread at least one more time, and maybe two, and that’s where the “Listen” or “Read Aloud” feature comes into play.

Now I have to admit that I may be arriving late to the party on this feature, but I have a feeling I’m not the only one out there. I only recently began using the Listen feature when I noticed that Medium had added the feature to its platform. “I wonder what my blog actually sounds like,” I can remember thinking the first time I actually used the Listen feature. And while I was pleased that it sounded so good, I was dismayed to notice that I had failed to correct a few errors in my text.
