The Three Advantages of Watching Movies at Home versus the Four Benefits of Going to the Theater

I love movies. I love watching movies. I love analyzing movies. And I love discussing movies. But most of all, I love going to the movies. And after a hiatus of almost a year and a half due to COVID 19, Barbara and I visited our local theater again to watch Disney’s summer spectacular, Jungle Cruise with Dwayne Johnson and Emily Blunt. The movie itself wasn’t spectacular, but it was a welcome diversion, one that got us up off our couch, into our car, and out into our community for a date. What a treat!

Like most Americans, we have probably watched more movies during this last year or so than we have ever watched before. The home confinement and the easy availability of streaming services have made many of us full-time movie critics, and the experience has made me recognize not only the three advantages of home viewing but also the four benefits of going to the theater.

First, I enjoy the reasonable cost of home viewing versus the much more exorbitant expense of a visit to the theater. The monthly subscription to most streaming services is roughly equivalent to one full-price theater ticket. And for that monthly fee, I can watch mountains of movies. When I look at the number of movies available to me, I often feel the same way I feel…
