What Does Your Tee-Shirt Say?

Do you give blood on a regular basis? If so, you know that the Red Cross will often reward you with a tee-shirt.

Naturally, that tee-shirt is not just a plain tee-shirt with no words or logos. Instead, that promotional tee-shirt generally has the Red-Cross logo featured prominently with a message that says, essentially, “Your Blood Donation Makes You Special” or “Donating Blood Is Life Giving” or “Would You Consider a Donation in the Near Future?” In other words, that tee-shirt is a sales pitch to remind you to donate again or to encourage others to do the same.

Christians sometimes promote Jesus in a similar fashion. We wear tee-shirts that say, “I Work for a Jewish Carpenter” or “What Would Jesus Do?” or “Jesus Is the Answer.”

And while those sentiments are thought provoking, uplifting, inspiring, and encouraging to fellow believers, they may not be as effective in attracting non-believers. For even if a non-believer is prompted to ask about the “Jewish carpenter,” and even if the ensuing conversation feels positive, is that interaction enough to attract the non-believer to Christ?

Maybe. Maybe not.
